Who is Solveig?

Solveig is a primarily self-taught Philadelphia-based artist who has always been fascinated by the world we live in.
Some of her work is inspired by the time she spends rowing on bodies of water, noticing how the reflections on the water surface change shape and dance around as she slices through the glass with her shell. Other pieces have been created from the idea of using the canvas as more than a two-dimensional surface that carries the paint, but rather making it an essential piece of the work. And more pieces have originated from the thought of making pieces that are timeless: nudes, nature and abstract work.

Her most recent series of five paintings were abstract interpretations of common kid’s toys & puzzles, because she wanted to encourage conversation around art between kids and their parents. She also paired each painting with its appropriate toy, because she loves to not only challenge kids to solve puzzles, but also wanted to bring out the inner child in adults.

Solveig has had her work in magazines, coffee shops, restaurants and even hospitals. She also won an art competition by creating a painting that was selected to be on the cover of the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta booklet in 2021.
